ungureni1

We are, and have always been very close to the community that we belong to.

Atlantic Tour has always had an open policy in regard to various community projects. Throughout the years we have sponsored many native artists, encouraged the preservation of old traditions in the Maramures region through various projects and invested in the rehabilitation of tourist sights.

In the first half of 2003 Atlantic Tour started to restore the roof of the Ungureni Orthodox wooden church in Maramures. The church was built in 1682, on a stone foundation, in traditional Maramures style, with beautiful inside paintings. The first step in saving and preserving this valuable heritage was to rebuild the roof. Atlantic Tour sponsored the complete restoration of this church as our personal contribution to the preservation of this symbol of Romanian tradition, history and culture.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE RESTORATION OF BUCHAREST'S GREEN BELT

The major changes in climate, due partly to the excessive pollution which we witnessed in recent years requires each of us to try and remedy this by keeping the environment clean for future generations. According to recent studies the general deterioration of the environment has accelerated and Bucharest is unfortunately the most affected city in Romania. The continuous expansion of the urban area of Bucharest over the past 20 years has led to the massive deterioration of the capital's green belt and has consequently affected the air quality.

This has brought about the involvement of Atlantic Tour in the project to restore the city's green belt put forward by the mayoralty of the Sector 2 Bucharest. Atlantic Tour supported the initiative by planting a thousand medium-sized trees (maple, ash and pine) in Fundeni Park during February-March 2007.

RESTORATION OF THE JEWISH CEMETERY OF ORAVITA

One of the oldest cemeteries in Romania, the cemetery of Oravita was closed in the late 50s and was almost forgotten about until Atlantic Tour got involved in its renovation. Of the more than 100 marble tombstones, which deteriorated with the passage of years, 21 graves have been restored so far.

SUPPORT OFFERED TO SCHOOLS IN THE DOGON COUNTRY

Atlantic Tour wants to focus a portion of profits to support activities that contribute to the development of disadvantaged areas.

If in previous years we have delivered on that intention supporting local projects, starting in 2008 Atlantic Tour committed itself to bringing a smile to the faces of children from a school in the Republic of Mali.

In the Dogon Country, one of the many tribes in Mali, situated close to Mopti, there is a school founded by a local charitable foundation. To help students here, Atlantic Tour intends to send study materials (books in French) and school supplies (pencils, pens, pencils, notebooks, etc ...) needed to conduct classes.

We hope that our action will be just a first step in helping the communities in Mali.
